Video Analysis

This video is about teaching learning process in china. The duration of the video is 27 minutes more and less. The pupils are chinesse at kinderganten class and there are about 20 students in the class, one teacher, and completely with some asisstant of teacher. This video has 4 point that will disscuss in the essay, including the characteristic or teaching learning process, role of T (Teacher) and S (Students), the nature of student teacher interaction, and how does the T respons to the learners’ error.
Based on the video, T uses TPR (Total Physical Response) method in his teaching learning process. TPR is a language teaching method built around the coordination of speech and action; it attempts to teach language through physical (motor) activity. It is the teacher who decides what to teach, who models and presents the new materials, and who selects supporting materials for classroom use. The teacher is encouraged to be well prepared and well organized so that the lesson flows smoothly and predictably. He also set  the students  sit in a circle around him then he can encourage them to walk around as they do the action.
The teacher plays an active and direct role in the classroom, his role is as a model and director. This method such as direct learning models in a fun way. He opens the class by making some jokes to make S enjoy the learning process, then he starts saying a word ('good') or a phrase ('show me your hand') and demonstrating an action. The teacher says the command and the pupils do the action, sometimes they repeat what teacher said and imitate what teacher did. After repeating a few times it is possible to extend this by asking the students to repeat the word as they do the action. When they feel confident with the word or phrase the T can ask the S one by one directly. It also happens in the video, T provide a phrase ‘what colour do you like ?’ then S answer it naturally. T repeat the phrase many times to make S confident to the phrase, then he asks them directly. It is good tool for building vocabulary in kindergarten class.
Learners in Total Physical Response have the primary roles of listener and performer. They perform attentively and respond physically to command given by the teacher. Learners are required to respond both individually and collectively. Learners have little influence over the content of learning, since content is determined by the teacher, who must follow the imperative-based format for lessons.
In the classroom the teacher and students take on roles similar to that of the parent and child respectively. Students must respond physically to the words of the teacher. The interaction between T and learners is signified by the T speaking and S responding nonverbally. Later on, the learners become more verbal and the T respons nonverbally. Students perform the actions together. Students can learn by watching each other. At some point, however, Asher believes observers must demonstrate their understanding of the commands in order to retain them. As students begin to speak, they issue commands to one another as well as to the teacher.
In giving feedback to learners, the teacher should follow the example of parents giving feedback to their children. At first, parents correct very little, but as the child grows older, parents are said to tolerate fewer mistakes in speech. Based on the video, T will give S high five if they could answer the question correctly but if they cannot answer the question, T will give them clue to make them easier in answering question. For example, T provide some pictures of animal to show pupils how the animal looks like, then he asks them what animal that they like. If there are S could not answer it, T will help them giving them a clue. This teaching learning process combined with Direct Method as appear in the video the way the teacher correct students’ error is directly.

In short, this video is using TPR method in which the role of T is as a director and model, and the role of S is as listener and performer. The interaction between T and S is signified by the T speaking and S responding nonverbally. This teaching learning process is combined with direct method which occur when the T correct Students’ error is directly.

Students language learning beliefs: correlation between learning strategies and final achievement

Introduction Every students has their uniqueness in learning language and it based on their beliefs. According to Cabarog lu and Roberts (2000, p.388) they defined beliefs as “a set of conceptual representation which signify to its holder a reality or given state of affairs of sufficient validity, thruth or trust wothness to warrant reliance upon it as a guide to personal thought and action”. However, there is no complete agreement on meaning and definition of beliefs, although the definition of this concept enjoys popularity in language learning research. Horwitz (1987) defined beliefs about language learning as language learners’ preconceived ideas or nations on variety of issues related to second or foreign language learning. for instance, some of them used to study language by using audio and the rest used to learn by audio-visual. It depend on students’ need and as the teacher they should provide them the best media to make an attractive learning. Therefore, the learners’ tho

JAMILA LYISCOTT : THREE WAYS TO SPEAK ENGLISH

Jamila Lyiscott is a girl which could speak English in three tongue and she decided to treat all three of her languages as equals because she is articulate. Who   controls the articulation ? English language is a multifaceted oration subject to indefinite transformation. She is a tri-lingual orator which used differently in home, school and friends. She could speak like “What’s good ?” “Whatagwan” and “Hello”. Sometimes she is consistent with the language which is used now then switch it up to reduce the boredom. Sometimes she fight back two tongues, while she uses the other one in the classroom and when she mistakenly mix them up and feel crazy like she is cooking in the bathroom. She do know that she had to borrow American language because hers was stolen. However, the western cannot expect her to speak their history wholly while hers is broken.
